We cultivate a team of caring instructors who are first-rate artists and musicians, and create outlets for artistic expression through recitals, exhibits, and outreach opportunities.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Position Summary

We are looking for a warm, creative, and flexible Art Instructor to lead our inclusive art programs for young children. These classes bring neurodiverse students and their peers together in small, supportive settings where every child can explore art at their own pace. The ideal candidate is comfortable adapting lesson plans on the spot, values collaboration with families and community partners, and believes that art making is for everyone.

 

Programs and Schedule:

Sensory Studio Thursdays, 5:00 to 6:00pm Ages 5 to 11

An inclusive art class designed for neurodiverse students alongside their friends and siblings. Class sizes are kept small and projects are flexible so each child can engage in the way that works best for them. Total time: 2 hours per week for class setup, instruction and dismissal (Plus a $25 stipend for weekly lesson planning)

 

Aspiring Artists and Early Childhood Art at Bayview Wednesdays, 9:00 to 11:15am These two classes run back to back.

  • Aspiring Artists is an inclusive, collaborative program offered in partnership with Aspire Therapies, serving children ages 2 to 5. Classes welcome children with a range of support needs, including those who use augmentative communication devices. 
  • Early Childhood Art at Bayview Community Center is offered in partnership with our neighbors at Bayview to bring early childhood art enrichment to residents and families in the Bayview community
  • Total time: 3.5 hours per week for class setup, instruction and dismissal (Plus a $25 stipend for weekly lesson planning)

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and lead developmentally appropriate, sensory-friendly art lessons for young children with a range of abilities and needs
  • Adapt materials, instructions, and pacing in the moment to meet each child where they are
  • Create a classroom environment that is welcoming, predictable, and affirming for neurodiverse students and their families
  • Collaborate with co-facilitators, therapy partners, and community center staff to support each child's participation
  • Communicate with parents, caregivers, and program partners as needed
  • Maintain a safe and organized studio space, including setup and cleanup for each class

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or working with young children, ideally in an inclusive or special needs setting
  • Background in visual art, art education, art therapy, or a related field
  • Comfort and confidence supporting children who use communication devices, sensory tools, or other supports
  • Patience, flexibility, and genuine enjoyment of working with children of varying abilities
  • Strong communication skills with children, families, and program partners
  • Reliable availability on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings
