Position Summary/Job Duties:
The External Relations Coordinator works closely with the Wisconsin Union Theater’s programming, marketing and ticketing staff on audience development and community engagement for the Wisconsin Union Theater’s annual season of performing arts. Responsibilities include researching campus departments, organizations, and community groups and identifying potential opportunities for group ticket sales or donor-funded complimentary tickets; communicating and promoting events to different groups in effective ways; designing a process that ensures a positive experience our guests and effectively tracks these processes; working closely with Theater staff to coordinate tickets, seating, and other related logistical and engagement needs.
This position is a collaboration between the Wisconsin Union and the School of Education. The role is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to actively practice what they learn in class within a professional setting.
The role is for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. While the hours worked per week may vary, the position is limited to a total of ~100 hours of work.
Duties & Responsibilities
Researching campus departments, organizations, and community groups
Identifying potential opportunities for group ticket sales or donor-funded complimentary tickets
Communicating and promoting events to different groups in effective ways
Designing a process that ensures a positive experience our guests
Working closely with Theater staff to coordinate tickets, seating, and other related logistical needs.
Qualifications:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with diverse groups with different backgrounds, beliefs, languages, and cultures
Ability to flex schedule and work evenings and weekends as needed
Strong attention to detail and ability to coordinate details with external groups
Prior experience in community building or community engagement a plus
Prior knowledge and experience working in arts administration or performing arts environment a plus
Applicants must have a declared major in the School of Education to qualify for this internship.
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment.
