Position Summary/Job Duties: | I’m looking for a UW–Madison student photographer to photograph a fall family portrait session for my family!
The session would be for me, my husband, our 10-month-old daughter, Amelia, and our dog, Toby. We live in Mount Horeb, WI, but we’re happy to travel into the Madison/downtown area for the session if that makes things easier for the photographer.
I’m a UW–Madison photography alumna myself, so I’m especially excited to be on the other side of the lens this time around! I know firsthand how valuable opportunities like this can be for student photographers, and I’d love to work with someone who is building their portfolio and getting experience with family/lifestyle photography.
What we’re looking for:
- A photographer who enjoys candid, natural family photography
- Experience (or an interest) in photographing families and young children
- Someone comfortable working with a 10-month-old and a very enthusiastic dog
- Your own camera/equipment
- Ability to professionally edit the images following the session
- A portfolio or examples of your photography work that we can take a look at
Session details:
- Type: Fall family portraits
- Family: 2 adults, 1 baby (10 months), and 1 dog
- Location: Mount Horeb or Madison area; flexible
- Timing: Ideally sometime this fall; date/time can be coordinated together
- Length: Approximately 1–1.5 hours
- Budget: $300 flat rate, inclusive of the photography session, editing, and delivery of the final digital images
We’re hoping for photos that feel warm, natural, and authentic rather than overly posed—although we’d definitely like a few classic family portraits, too!
The $300 budget is intended to cover the full photography process, including the session and post-processing/editing. We’re flexible on the exact session location and timing and are happy to work with the photographer to find a location that makes for a great fall setting.

Qualifications: |
- Current UW–Madison student, preferably studying photography, visual arts, journalism, communications, or a related field
- Experience with portrait, family, lifestyle, or similar photography preferred but not required
- Comfortable photographing young children and working with a dog
- Access to your own camera and basic photography equipment
- Familiarity with basic photo editing software and ability to deliver edited digital images
- A portfolio, website, or social media account showcasing photography work
- Reliable, communicative, and comfortable coordinating directly with a family
