Position Summary/Job Duties:

We're looking for a warm, imaginative, and highly reliable person to help care for our three children and keep our household running smoothly. Both parents travel frequently for work, so this role blends excellent childcare with day-to-day household management—someone who can hold things together when we're not around, can make dinner and help pack lunches, and can safely drive kids around town for sports and other activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Kind, patient, and even-tempered, great at giving equal warmth and attention to each of our three busy kids, and empathically reads kids’ moods and work through challenges, meeting them with positivity rather than yelling or escalation
  • Imaginative and full of ideas for screen-free activities — games, projects, crafts, and outings
  • Self-starter who can manage a household and uses open moments to tidy up, organize things, prepare food, and look for and execute other constructive projects without being micromanaged
  • Safe driver with clean driving record who is comfortable driving around Madison
  • Track record of connecting with and building positive relationships with older kids/tweens/young teens and is happy to oversee visiting friends or coordinate play dates
  • Comfortable with our big loving snuggly Bernese Mountain Dog
  • Pluses: enjoys hiking and being outdoors, enjoys baking or cooking with kids, enjoys doing and teaching arts and crafts projects

Responsibilities

Childcare

  • Track kids’ varied schedules—three different schools with different end times, and different after-school activities—and keep them engaged, fed, and on time
  • Plan and lead creative, non-screen-based activities (crafts, games, baking, outdoor time, etc.) balanced with giving them time and space to relax and unwind
  • Support homework and daily routines as needed

Household Management

  • Keep laundry moving continuously—washer, dryer, folding, working with kids to put away
  • Keep dishes done (emptying and loading dishwasher, putting away) and kitchen clean
  • Tidy up around main floor, activity areas, and kids’ rooms
  • General upkeep that keeps the house running smoothly day to day

Driving

  • Must have a valid driver's license; you can use one of our cars or bring your own (we’d reimburse gas costs)
  • Comfortable driving kids to and from school, activities, and appointments

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with school-age and/or pre-teen children
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Comfortable in a busy, sometimes unpredictable household
  • References required; background check a plus
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus (or willingness to obtain)
