Position Summary/Job Duties:

We're a household near UW Madison within walking distance of campus and we're looking for help educating and babysitting our 2 daughters, ages 7 and 9. You can apply for either or both roles below; each is its own position with its own expectations. Candidates who can fill both roles will be preferred.

POSITION 1: Weekly ASL Teacher

Our oldest daughter was introduced to ASL in school and said she would really like to learn more and take lessons. Both girls would love to learn and work with someone to build foundational ASL skills. (Our household does not have an ASL speaker.)

Schedule: Once per week, Monday or Tuesday, between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM (flexible within that window). Lesson length approximately 45 minutes but flexible based on your recommendation.

Location: Our home, one block closer to campus than Trader Joe's. Exact address shared upon hiring discussion.

What we're looking for:
- Competency in American Sign Language (pursuant degree in Deaf Studies, ASL Linguistics, or related field preferred; or equivalent demonstrated proficiency)
- Teaching experience with children, preferably ages 6–12 (adult-only teaching experience does not qualify)
- Ability to design age-appropriate lessons with weekly take-home activities/goals (does not need to be overly rigorous but should give them things to practice and study in their everyday lives)
- Bring all teaching materials (we will reimburse reasonable material costs. The children love scavenger hunts, arts and crafts)
- Willingness to pass a background check OR provide proof of UW Madison enrollment (student ID card or unofficial transcript)
- Reliable, punctual, comfortable working independently in a home setting

Compensation: $35 per 45-minute lesson. Open to discussing based on qualifications.

Start date: Within a week of hiring decision (likely mid-October to early November)

How to apply: Please submit a short cover letter (max 1 page) summarizing:
1. Your ASL background/certification
2. Your experience teaching children, with one specific example
3. Your availability within the Mon/Tue 3:30–5:00 PM window
4. Your hourly rate or expected pay range

We'll only be able to review applications that include all four points — thank you for understanding!

POSITION 2: Consistent Babysitter (Weekly or Biweekly)

Schedule: Once per week OR every other week (applicant's preference), Friday evening, Saturday daytime or evening, or Sunday daytime as needed

Children: Girls, ages 7 and 9

What we're looking for:
- Minimum 1 year of consistent childcare experience with children in this age range
- References from at least two previous families (or 1 family if long-term)
- Willingness to pass a background check OR provide proof of UW Madison enrollment (student ID card or unofficial transcript)
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required
- Comfortable with light homework supervision, meals/snacks, outdoor play, and bedtime routines
- Local, reliable, long-term oriented

Compensation: $18 per hour.

How to apply: Please submit:
1. A brief intro (who you are, your experience, what you enjoy about babysitting children this age)
2. Availability (weekly or every other week)
3. Two references (names, relationship, contact info) OR 1 long-term reference
4. Your hourly rate

Notes for Both Positions
- Thank you in advance for your application. Note that we may not reply to all applicants.
- We'll coordinate a brief in-person meetup before a in-home meeting.
- No social media or photo sharing of our children or household
