Student Assistants (GA/PA/TA/RA/Fellowship) summary: The Design Studies (DS) department in the School of Human Ecology has TA openings in DS 140 and DS 220 for Spring 2026. DS 140: Visual Thinking-Form & Space. This course explores manual and digital techniques for idea exploration, concept development, and design presentation using a variety of media; includes projects in hand drawing techniques and professional design software (Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat; SketchUp). TA’s must attend the lecture and support 2-3 lab sections. TA’s will lead studio sections, helping students develop their design concepts, teach basic drawing, and offer technical assistance for relevant software. The lecture for this course is held on Monday/Wednesday from 2:30-3:15pm. Labs will be Wednesday 3:30-7:35pm, Thursday 3:30-7:35pm, and/or Friday 11am-3:15pm. DS 220: Design Fundamentals II. This course covers elements and principles of three-dimensional design relevant to design and analysis of the spatial environment; focus will be on making physical models. The lecture for this course is held on Monday/Wednesday from 8:50-9:40am. Labs will be held on Wednesday 11am-12:55pm, Thursday 9:55am-2:00pm, and/or Friday 9:55-11:50am. TA’s must attend the lecture and cover 2-3 lab sections.
