Department Overview:

MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50+ fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

Assistant Director Hours: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (times are approximate; schedule will be determined by the Site Director).

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds
Proven leadership and organizational skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Prior work experience.
Must be 18 or older.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with youth in a recreation or childcare setting.
Experience training, supporting and supervising staff and/or volunteers.
Experience providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong or other languages.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

General Responsibilities:
Work as a team with Site Director & other Assistant Site Directors to prepare for and oversee a six-week summer program for elementary age children.
Organize special events for participants.
Train, support, supervise and evaluate program staff.
Assist program leaders with behavior management and intervention.
Communicate with parents as needed.
Assist with programming and supply coordination and organization.
Supervise field trips.
Other duties as assigned.

Program Dates:
Leadership Training: All Leadership members meet with their supervisor once between May 1 and 17. All Leadership members choose Option 1 or 2 (weekend or evening) for SREC Intro and Inclusion training; and all Leadership members attend May 23 together. Holtzman Learning Center is located at, 333 Holtzman Rd, Madison, WI 53713.

All Leadership – Between May 1 and 17, one meeting TBD with Supervisor (in-person or remote)
and
Option 1/weekend – Saturday May 18, 10-2pm @ Holtzman OR Option 2/evening – Tuesday/Thursday, May 21 & 28, 6-8pm @ Holtzman
and
All Leadership – May 23 6:00pm-8:00pm @ Holtzman
~25 hours between May 29 and June 7 are available for training week prep TBD w/Site Director.

All staff Training Week: June 10-14 – In person, on site 10:30am-4:30pm.

Program Dates & Times:
Monday, June 17-July 26 Summer School/SREC Program, No program/staff: June 19, July 4 & 5 (unpaid holiday closure). SREC program hours: 12-4pm Monday thru Friday.
