Department Overview:

MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50+ fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
This position is best suited for someone with experience:
Supervising, coaching and managing staff.
Training staff and program development.
Developing a fun and safe camp culture for staff and campers.
Maintaining a positive attitude throughout the summer.
Using creative problem solving skills.
Keeping camp buildings organized and the property tidy.
Communicating any property issues with the field supervisor.
Working in resident/day camps.
Perform independently and within a team.
First Aid/CPR Certified or willing to get certified.
Must have a vehicle or access to a vehicle on a daily basis.
Training and experience in teaching outdoor activities to children.
Previous experience working with elementary school aged children in an outdoor setting.
Strong logistic and organizational skills.
Previous experience with supervising, evaluating, and coaching employees.
Ability to respond quickly and efficiently in an emergency to ensure camper safe.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience multi-tasking many different priorities at once.
Experience communicating in a professional manner with families, staff, youth, supervisors, and community members.
Experience mediating conversations between staff members.
Two or more seasons working in outdoor day or residential camps or an equivalent experience.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Sports Camp site director is responsible for the overall supervision and management of an mostly outdoor day camp for campers entering grades 2-5. Duties will include staff supervision, evaluation of staff, working within a budget, enforcing camp rules and policies, creating a positive and safe environment for campers, communicating with families, emergency management, and daily operation of the day camp. Paid professional development and training are provided to help build your skills. Opportunities to continue employment in the fall. Come join our team!

Program Dates:
May 20- June 7, 2024: Seasonal Director Training (20-40 hrs/week)
June 10-14, 2024: Mandatory paid training (40 hrs)
June 17- August 9, 2024: Summer Camp program
August 12-16, 2024 : Camp clean up / wrap up

Work Location: Stephens Elementary (Westside location), Nuestro Mundo at Frank Allis (Eastside location).
