Department Overview:

MSCR or Madison School & Community Recreation is Madison’s public recreation provider. We offer everything you would find in your typical community rec department in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming, arts & enrichment, adult & 50+ fitness, sport leagues, outdoor pursuits and more. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District(MMSD), we also provide afterschool and summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Must have 2+ years of experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds in an education or day camp setting.
Previous experience supervising staff required.
Excellent organizational skills to manage program logistics required.
Must have proven dependability, teamwork, leadership skills, flexibility and enthusiasm.
Readiness to actively participate in all aspects of program.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual Spanish a plus.
American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR and First Aid certification desired.

Other Information:
Must be creative & enthusiastic.
MUST BE AVAILABLE ALL PROGRAM DATES and TIMES.

Job Description & Duties:
Do you love to learn? Do you love to share the joy of learning with kids? Fascination Station Day Camps are half-day programs for elementary-aged youth providing in-depth exposure to specific topics in a fun, enriching environment. Campers are encouraged to explore their interests and passions. Individual camp structures vary based on the nature of the theme, but generally include both large and small group activities developing continuity throughout the week.

We are looking for energetic and hard-working emerging leaders who want to make a difference in kids lives this summer. Work with Site Director to coordinate logistics, facilitate camp programming and provide general supervision of Fascination Station day camp site. Duties include:
Supervise, schedule and evaluate camp staff.
Maintain participant records and program attendance.
Acquire supplies in a cost and time efficient manner.
Review lesson plans and provide feedback to staff.
Help manage participant behaviors.
Plan any field trips and coordinate bus transportation.
Ensure safety for all campers and staff.
Create enthusiastic, engaging, and inclusive environment for participants.
Engage in all camp activities when available.
Communicate openly with parents.
Provide support and coaching for staff.
Participate in weekly meetings with Youth Arts Specialist and Field Supervisor.
Run campsite when director is absent.
Fill in as camp counselor if needed.

Program Dates: Full time hours begin 6/10-8/9/24. Additional training dates in May.

Work Location: 6/10-7/12/24 at Muir Elementary, 7/15-8/9/24 at Lowell Elementary
