The Information Technology Academy (ITA) provides educational services to diverse students, with the ultimate goal of increasing their enrollment, retention and graduation rates at the UW-Madison.

Qualifications:

Seeking highly responsible and reliable college enrolled students in good standing who are making satisfactory progress toward a degree. (UW, Edgewood, Madison College students all eligible to apply.) Commitment to working with a diverse clientele required. At least 3 semester commitment. Discipline to work independently and complete deadlines required. Good communication skills are needed. Willingness to learn about new technology topics and teaching techniques. Previous teaching or mentoring experience preferred but not required. All finalists are subject to criminal background checks.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills essential. Ability to adapt to a shifting variety of duties; English fluency required. Well-versed in teaching or willing to learn the pedagogy of teaching. Strong computer skills desired. Well-versed or willing to learn about the following technology topics:
Photography and the use of Adobe Photoshop
Graphic Design and the use of Adobe Illustrator
Video Production and the use of Adobe Premiere
Web Design and the use of HTML and CSS
Sound Design and the use of Adobe Audition or Ableton
Microsoft Office Suite
Programming

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Instructor responsibilities would include: working with/teaching a diverse population of high school students in technology related topics. Topics would include photography, graphic design, video production, programing, sound design, and others. There will be paid training included in this position specific to the different topics being taught. Occasional travel will be a requirement in this position. Instruction is delivered in a blended learning platform that includes two week in person summer camps taking place in our partner communities, quarterly in person cohorts, as well as virtual instruction during the course of the school year.

Additional Duties Include:

Prepare lesson plans and materials such as presentations, handouts, etc for in-person classes that involve traveling
Remain positive while traveling with students and co-workers
Record video lessons for the online classes when not traveling
Updating and maintaining CANVAS course for the class
Willingness to learn the topic of the class and better know the students in order to better guide instruction
Grading student work in a timely manner
Responding to students questions in a timely manner
Participating in weekly meetings with supervisor and entire staff
Assist with and attend ITA special events
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor

Physical Demands:

Traveling 2 weekends of Fall Semester, 2 weekend during spring semester, 1 week in Madison for Spring Conference and 2- 4 weeks during the summer. During the aforementioned schedule, staff will be expected to assist in assessing equipment needs, packing necessary items, loading and unloading, and set up.
