Department Overview:

 This internship is offered in partnership with SuccessWorks at the College of Letters and Science through the Community Impact Internship Program.

Make Music Madison is a free, citywide, outdoor day of music held annually on the summer solstice. Initiated in Madison in2013, our festival is part of the larger Make Music Day, an international summer solstice music celebration occurring in 1,000+ cities across the globe. Make Music Madison celebrates all genres of music, skill levels, and ages of musicians. The goal of this event is to fill the city with music from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at outdoor venues hosted at community centers, museums, retailers, restaurants, parks, theaters, places of worship, private residences, and other locations. Anyone can perform and anyone can host a performance, as long as the event is within the City of Madison, free, accessible to the public, and maintains a 6′ clearance on the sidewalk for pedestrian passage.

Make Music Madison is a 501(c)(3) organization operated by a single part-time staff and a diverse board of music lovers from across the city.

 Flexible and set between the intern and supervisor.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

 $500.00 or $12.00/hr

Qualifications:

Applicants must be UW-Madison undergraduate students.

 

L&S Students are eligible to receive a $500 stipend from SuccessWorks.

 

L&S students who are eligible for work-study funding can complete additional requirements, detailed in the "Job Duties" section to receive $12/hour in lieu of a stipend. Work study eligibility is preferred, but not required.

 

**To receive a stipend or work-study funding, students must be enrolled in the College of Letters and Science.**

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Interest in live musical performance (no musical talent or experience required)
Familiarity with social media engagement strategies
Comfortable with Google Workspace
Clear and concise communication skills
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Organized
Additional abilities in development, design, marketing, or project management helpful, but not required

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Internship job duties:
Manage social media pages (Instagram, Facebook)
Community outreach (email, call, meet with potential venue hosts/performers/partners)
Attend Make Music Madison on June 21 and capture social media content (transportation required)
Assist in production of annual report
Attend weekly check-in meetings and monthly board meetings
Additional duties pending applicant skills and interests, including grant research and writing, sponsor engagement, project management, web and digital asset design, data visualization.

Work Study interns must complete the following additional requirements:
One 30-minute career advising appointment with a SuccessWorks Career Advisor
Participation in one SuccessWorks Careers Event (remote or in-person)
Feedback survey/short interview about their internship experience
