Department Overview:

This internship is offered in partnership with SuccessWorks in the College of Letters and Science through the Community Impact Internship Program.

WORT is a non-commercial, listener-sponsored, member-controlled community radio station broadcasting to South-Central Wisconsin and maintaining an active Internet presence. WORT programming shall respect all peoples and their environments, and shall serve abroad spectrum of the community by:

Providing a forum for both the discussion of public issues, and the expansion of musical and cultural experience, in order to promote greater communication, education, entertainment, and understanding.
Facilitating community expression and providing community access to share music, culture, news, and information.
Challenging the cultural and intellectual assumptions of our listeners through unique and diverse programming.
Including audiences and programmers under-represented by other media.

Set between the intern and supervisor.

$500 or $12.00/hr

Qualifications:

Applicants must be UW-Madison undergraduate students.

 

L&S Students are eligible to receive a $500 stipend from SuccessWorks.

 

L&S students who are eligible for work-study funding can complete additional requirements, detailed in the "Job Duties" section to receive $12/hour in lieu of a stipend. Work study eligibility is preferred, but not required.

 

**To receive a stipend or work-study funding, students must be enrolled in the College of Letters and Science.**

You are social, outgoing, and enjoy meeting new people. You are always looking to try something new.
You pay attention to details and want to do quality work. You can work in a quickly changing environment.
You have a willingness to explore multiple points of view.
Access to a vehicle is strongly recommended.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Internship job duties:
Pitch and discuss social media and outreach ideas with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator.
Work the WORT outreach booth at events and festivals, including setup and tear down.
Learn how to write scripts for promo exchanges.
Identify outreach opportunities.
Schedule, create and post social media posts and recruitment emails to volunteers.
Coordinate volunteers and shift changes at outreach events and the WORT booth.
Pitch and discuss new techniques to recruit and retain volunteers for events.
Choose a date for an Access Hour and learn how to put together an hour of radio.
Be respectful to all volunteers and event workers.
Work cooperatively with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator and other WORT staff.

Work Study interns must complete the following additional requirements:
One 30-minute career advising appointment with a SuccessWorks Career Advisor
Participation in one SuccessWorks Careers Event (remote or in-person)
Feedback survey/short interview about their internship experience

Physical Demands:

Access to a car on Fridays - Sundays is strongly encouraged
