Department Overview:

Mills Music Library is the primary resource for music materials and information on the UW-Madison campus and in the state. Mills primarily serves the UW-Madison campus community, but it is also open to the general public. Over the course of its history, Mills Music Library has grown from a 2,500-item departmental collection to a research library of more than 250,000 titles, with Special Collections containing an additional 250,000 items in all formats. Special strengths include Americana, musical theater, recorded sound, and ethnomusicology. https://www.library.wisc.edu/music.

The UWDCC supports the educational and outreach missions of the University of Wisconsin by providing professional leadership in the creation of quality digital resources from libraries and archives for faculty, staff and students, citizens of the state and scholars at large. Located on the UW-Madison campus, the UWDCC has digitized millions of objects, developed and implemented technologies to enhance digital collections, and partnered with a variety of content providers to create illustrative and valuable digital resources. Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of digital photography
Attention to detail
Ability to work independently yet communicate pertinent technical issues to staff

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

High degree of attention to detail performing quality control on image files and reviewing metadata records
Knowledge of Adobe Bridge, Lightroom and/or Capture One
Some experience in and/or courses in studio or product photography
An interest in Library and Information Studies

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Coordinates projects to be digitized with the Mills Music Library and UWDCC production staff
Perform high volume capture of loose sheet music, postcards, and photos using the overhead reprographic camera setup and Capture One software
Capture of bound library materials using the BC100 book copy system and Capture One software
Post-production processing of digital images according to professional standards including cropping, rotating, batch editing, and quality control
Organize digital files
Perform quality control of metadata and images for each project before publishing.
Track project hours, student hours using FileMaker Pro
Communicate workflow issues to co-workers and staff at both Mills and UWDCC
Approximately 10 hours/week expected: onsite weekday, daytime shifts; Once fully trained, may complete some tasks remotely on a flexible schedule.
