Department Overview:
Badger Challenge is a yearlong initiative to help raise funds for cancer research and patient treatment initiatives at the University of Wisconsin and UW Health | UW Carbone Cancer Center. It hosts a walking, running, and cycling event on the 4th Sunday of September. The Badger Challenge has grown to nearly 3,000 participants each year and has raised over $3.6 million dollars to support lifesaving cancer research. Thanks to the generous support of our corporate partners, 100% of every participant-raised dollar goes rapidly onto the bench funding innovative approaches in the arena of surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, personalized medicine and more. To date we have funded 60+ Badger Challenge scholars that are driving their discoveries into cures across every type of cancer right here at the Carbone Cancer Center. -6-8 hours/week of in office work taking place at the WIMR building Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:00am – 5:00pm. -5-10 hours per month of promotional events taking place in various Dane County Locations. -40 hours of event production work the week of 9/16/24 - 9/22/24

Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications: -Junior standing (54+ credits) in the School of Human Ecology Transportation Needs: Work will take place primarily in the Wisconsin Institute of Medical Research (WIMR) Building at 1111 Highland Ave. Madison, WI which is on the bus line. Promotional events will take place at various locations throughout Dane County. The event weekend will take place at the American Family Insurance Headquarters at 6000 American Parkway Madison, WI. Eligible candidates must have reliable transportation outside of standard work hours.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
-Excellent written and oral communication -Enthusiastic about event planning and fundraising initiatives -Detail oriented with a proactive approach to problem solving -Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) - Comfortable speaking to members of the public to promote the Badger Challenge mission -Interest in positively impacting the community by raising funds for cancer research
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The core responsibilities of this position would include helping our small team drive fundraising efforts by participating in community outreach events and administrative tasks. This position offers experience with event operations, event marketing, sponsorship acquisition, and peer-to-peer fundraising support. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience in event management and fundraising operations, offering a chance to contribute to our mission of curing cancer! Internship tasks would include: - Assist with coordinating event logistics for packet pick up events and event weekend setup - Assist with marketing email communications to grow event and increase fundraising dollars - Conduct research on potential community fundraising opportunities - Assist with planning and execution of community fundraising events - Outreach to current fundraisers to assist with fundraising needs - Coordinate closely with marketing on social media, collateral, and web content Specific Projects/Dates: Golf Outing - Monday 6/24/24 Badger Challenge Packet Pick Up Events –Wednesday 9/18/24, Thursday 9/19/24, Friday 9/20/24 Badger Challenge Event Set up – Friday 9/20/24 and Saturday 9/21/24 Badger Challenge Event Day – Sunday 9/22/24 *Other event opportunities available throughout the summer.
Physical Demands:
-Ability to lift up to 50lb (branded tents, signage, etc.)
