Department Overview:

This internship is offered in partnership with SuccessWorks through the Community Impact Internship Program.

Girls Inc Summer Camp involves three different camps for different age groups: Eureka Summer Camp, STEM Summer Camp, and Leadership Adventure Summer Camp. Our Summer Camp runs from June 17th to August 8th. They run for two weeks at a time in succession through the summer.

For the STEM Summer Camp, Girls Inc. is excited to partner with STEM experts in the Madison area who will not only lead hands-on, minds-on STEM activities, but also teach our camp participants that they too can be STEM experts! STEM programming will help kids build crucial social-emotional life skills like critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as build communication skills.

During the STEM Camp, the Camp Interns support Girls Inc.’s in-person, elementary school youth. Interns will support activities that align with the Girls Inc. mission, assist with data collection, and learn strategies to work with girls from diverse backgrounds.

Girls Inc.’s Leadership Adventure Camp will use Girls Inc. National’s Girls enCourage curriculum to push our summer campers to be strong, smart, and bold! Girls enCourage is designed to sustain youths' interest in sports through adolescence by introducing them to non-traditional activities and adventures that go beyond stereotypes and challenge them to set their own personal goals and create their own definitions of success.

Participation in program activities promotes movement skills, team cohesion and health awareness to develop girls' sense of personal power and worth. As they master new physical techniques and learn to take calculated risks, youth build not only physical strength, but also courage, confidence, self-reliance, and other critical life skills.

During the Leadership Adventure Camp, the Intern will support middle school aged youth. Summer camp activities will include canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, and overnight camping. Previous experience in any of these activities is preferred but not necessary. What is necessary is a willingness and interest in learning alongside the camp participants and encouraging them to try everything.
