Department Overview:

Transportation Services is responsible for the coordination and administration of all transportation-related services for the UW campus community.

Schedule:

Student will set a weekly work schedule with supervisor. Work shifts will be a minimum of 2 hours in length. Available hours 4-29 hours/week total. Most work will be done M-F 8am-8pm with rare or occasional opportunities for weekend work.

$14.50 to $16.50

Must be eligible to accept a UW Madison student work position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must be able to work independently and have good attention to detail. Must be able to use email and fill in web forms. Must be willing to work outside and in occasional inclement weather. May be responsible for using, protecting, and not losing or damaging a tablet for data entry.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Key tasks:
1) hanging posters in bus shelters. Involves travelling to every bus shelter on campus (about 70) by bus, bike, or on foot and using a tool to open display cases and swap posters. May be outside for long periods of time.
2) removing unauthorized postings in bus shelters as needed
3) campus bus observations. Involves either riding campus buses and collecting data or collecting data at bus stops using a tablet or cell phone to fill in data. May be outside in one location for long time periods.
4) bike parking counts. Involves using a tablet or cell phone to collect bicycle parking data in a web form. Must walk, bike, or bus to multiple locations on campus. May be outside for long periods of time.

Optional tasks as needed or available hours allow:
1) assist with taking measurements or photos in the field for bicycle or bus related construction projects
2) assisting with bike rack field issues. May involve signing or taping off racks for construction or assisting with tagging/impound/disposal of bicycles.
3) assist with tabling events. Involves attending an event and talking to customers about our programs.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to walk/bicycle/wheel/bus to locations throughout campus. Must be willing to work outside for long periods of time and in occasional inclement weather.
