Department Overview:
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more! During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Experience with various sports typically from high school and post secondary experience. Experience in youth leadership. Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with children, their parents/guardians, and the public. Previous experience working with elementary and/or middle school aged children. Preferred Qualifications: Specific experience coaching elementary and/or middle school aged children in learning sports. Proven enthusiasm and success in previous experience with elementary and/or middle school aged children.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Youth sports Instructors are expected to plan and lead a group of Elementary and Middle school participants in the instruction of the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport. The emphasis is on skill building, fun, fitness, making new friends, sportsmanship and learning the sport. As a Youth sports Instructor, you are responsible for promoting this atmosphere while keeping play safe and fun. Work Location: Various schools around the city / MSCR West.
