Department Overview:

Part of the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study is run through the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). The ADRC's mission is to improve the lives of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease by facilitating innovative science that targets the prevention and treatment of the disease. It combines academic, clinical, and research expertise from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, UW Health, and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital.

On-site work would be conducted within regular business hours (8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday). Preference for availability Tuesday-Friday, mid-day coverage (applicant does not need to be available everyday).

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled as a UW-Madison undergraduate student (preference given to students who can commit to a minimum of two semesters).
- Preference for Health Sciences majors

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Able to work independently and with initiative
- Strong organization and record-keeping skills
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Consistent schedule ideal
- Prior lab experience is a plus but not required

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Wisconsin Longitudinal Study (WLS) is a long-term study that has been following a random sample of Wisconsin's 1957 class of high school graduates for over 60 years. This current wave of the study is collecting health and lifestyle data to assess the cognitive health of its participants. In addition to that, we've also started new initiatives to collect biofluids and brain imaging.

The positions being hired for will have a range of tasks to assist the overarching study needs, though the primary focus will be to assist with the biofluid intake. Tuesday-Friday we generally receive between 5 and 20 packages/day of biofluids that are shipped to us via FedEx. The student(s) will assist in receiving, auditing, organizing, and documenting about these samples received.

Some additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, data entry, quality control checks, blood draw kit building, blood sample processing, greeting and escorting participants, and preparing for and reconciling audits.
