Madison Reading Project is a small, but expanding, non-profit which serves the city of Madison and surrounding Dane County. Our mission is to connect our community with free books and high-quality literacy resources that ignite a love for reading and affirm and reflect the diversity of young readers.

Qualifications:

Excited about our nonprofit work and has experience in marketing/ communications/ fundraising/ fashion- theater production

Comfortable communicating in person just as much as on the phone or via digital communications

Works well independently but able to regularly and promptly communicate with the MRP team.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Able to work independently and as part of a team

Comfortable communicating with

Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Assist with developing event plans and coordinate our annual fundraiser, Read(y) to Wear. Tasks include but are not limited to creation of social media content for sponsors and donors, prospecting and connecting with sponsors, donors and attendees, etc., and promoting ticket sales externally and reporting on ticket sales during weekly, staff check-in meetings, and assisting the event coordinator with planning tasks as assigned to reach fundraising goals.

Event production tasks (now through day of event) include model calls, outreach and recordkeeping of teams, recruit volunteers including hair and makeup artists, marketing, auction item procurement (donations), pre-show entertainment, fashion show layout and production, venue decoration and deliveries, and food/beverage vendors/donors. 

Act as lead assistant to the event coordinator. Help generate and distribute service/rental contracts to potential vendors, get bids, possibly negotiate terms and costs, then, make arrangements for delivery of deposits and reconcile invoices, while adhering to the set event budget.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a combination of environments ranging from a standard office environment to community sites. This will require walking, bending, climbing stairs and getting in and out of the MRP van etc. Must be able to drive a vehicle safely in the community. Must be able to safely use computer equipment for extended periods of time. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read and write words and numbers. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person, publicly or over the phone.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis but at those times the lifting could be repetitive. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn. The noise level varies from quiet to loud.
