Department Overview:

The Office of Student Transition and Family Engagement (OSTFE) prides itself on welcoming and supporting new first-year students, transfers, and families to the Badger community. Throughout our programs and daily work, we embrace our core values: Inclusion, Education, Integrity, and Collaboration. OSTFE houses programs including SOAR, Wisconsin Welcome, Transfer Transition Program, Parent & Family Program, and our first-year seminar class (CP125).
The Communications Intern will work to assist in the planning, design, and creation of content for our social media platforms. This person will work collaboratively with several other communications interns, staff members, and students. They will have a large role in shaping content catered to new students and families, creating design pieces to support the office’s five aforementioned programs, promoting office events via social media coverage, and capturing photos and videos at the events. Anticipated Hours Per Week:

8-12

Schedule:

● Spring 2025: 8-12 hrs/week
● Mid-May 2025: 15-20 hrs/week
● June/July 2025: Internship (up to 35 hrs/week)
● August 5 - September 15, 2025 (Peak Wisconsin Welcome Programming): 20-30 hrs/week
● Post Sept 15, 2025: 8-12 hrs/week

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$17.00/Hour

Qualifications:

● Full-time student status for the spring ‘25 semester and fall ‘25 semester
● Good academic and non-academic standing with the University at the time of application, hire, and employment. (OSTFE retains the right to check academic and non-academic misconduct throughout hiring and employment)
● Ability to work on all of the dates listed in the “Work Schedule” section of the application
● Major commitments cannot conflict with required staffing dates and should be disclosed to the supervisor prior to accepting the employment offer

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The hired intern will assist with communications and designs across the entire office. The responsibilities for the respective role will include:

● Office-Wide Social Media
○ Creation of regularly scheduled OSTFE social media content
○ Assist with management of office social media accounts
○ Development of content strategy and vision
○ Engage with new students and families on social media, during programs, and events

● Office Design Projects and opportunities for this role (** is most desired)
○ **Graphic design projects such as posters, fliers, graphics, and other materials
○ **Short-form video experience (Reels/TikToks)
○ Photography using a DSLR camera
○ Merch/gear designs (such as T-shirt designs or additional office merch)

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
