Department Overview:

Accounting Services within the Division of Business Services provides financial services for the UW-Madison financial community, including processing and reporting of accounting transactions and data. It provides these services for approximately 40 schools, colleges, and divisions across the UW-Madison campus. The department employs several student employees in a variety of teams. Schedule:

These positions are for 6-12 hours/week during the school year and approx 15-25 hours/week during summer with flexible scheduling around classes. Hours available can vary at different times of the year. Work can be performed fully remotely (within the U.S.), but working on site is available if desired. Work is performed during regular business hours, M-F based on students availability.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$12.50-$19.00

Qualifications:

• Must be able to work during the summer
• Accounting major preferred, business-related major required
• Demonstrate professionalism and competence in the campus environment
• Must demonstrate teamwork, integrity, and accountability. Assist and collaborate with team members. Contribute ideas/opinions to teams and listen/respond to other views.
• Must use technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery.
• Must seek, develop, and present ideas related to Accounting Services processes which will improve campus services.
• A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent customer service skills
• Attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Prepare journal entries in excel for posting to the general ledger
• Enter Salary Cost Transfer information from the Cost Transfer Tool into the HRS module (direct retro)
• Enter Interdepartmental Billings into JET (Journal Entry Tool)
• Enter Regent notice details in the Shared Financial System (SFS) for gift receipts
• File documentation into the Accounting Services imaging system
• Work on special projects as needed
