Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
1 or more years of teaching strength based fitness classes.
CPR/AED Certification (or ability to obtain in 45 days).
Knowledge of MSCR programs and mission.
Keep certifications current and remain in good standing.
Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Ability to visually cue and demonstrate exercises.
Reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:
A current Fitness or Group Fitness – related certification.
Previous experience in delivering fitness solutions in a group format with a diversity of backgrounds and goals.
Excellent interpersonal and motivation skills.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Ensure all equipment required for class is set-up before and put away after each class.
Prepare appropriate progressions and exercise alternatives to meet the needs of individual participants.
Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Actively seek out and engage in continuing education/professional development opportunities, including additional relevant certifications.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to visually cue and demonstrate exercises.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with class participants.
Follow all policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
