Department Overview:

University Health Services (UHS) offers award-winning, high quality medical, mental health, prevention, and wellness services to enrolled UW-Madison students. As a part of UHS, Badger Recovery connects and supports students in or considering recovery from substance use, eating disorders, and/or addictive behaviors. Our program offers weekly recovery meetings, recovery-informed social events, and recovery coaching. Badger Recovery embraces all definitions of recovery, whether that includes abstinence or harm reduction, and offers a welcoming and judgment-free space to support students on their personal recovery journey. We put our recovery first and embody our values of community, inclusion, open-mindedness, compassion, accountability, service, and well-being in all of our services.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Minimum: 5 Maximum: 10

Schedule:

Hours can range depending on the week; some Student Assistants work closer to 5 hours while others work closer to 10 hours. This varies based on responsibilities and which recovery meetings a Student Assistant co-facilitates. The work schedule will include committing to a weekly team meeting, biweekly check-in with a supervisor, and occasional weekend events (at least monthly). Candidates will also commit to supporting Badger Recovery recovery meetings/events 1-2 evenings during the week. For applicants with personal experience in recovery, this would be either Mondays (7-9pm, sometimes 6-9pm) and Wednesdays (5:45-8pm). For students interested in facilitating our LGBT+ Rainbow Recovery meetings, this would include Mondays (5-6pm). For applicants with family/friends in recovery, this will include Thursdays (5:30-6:30pm). For applicants without experience in recovery, they will discuss schedule needs with the Hiring Manager. Other responsibilities can be conducted remotely.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $13.00 Maximum: $15.00

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
Lived experience with recovery (self or loved ones)
Experience with or willingness to learn group facilitation skills and trauma-informed practices (training provided)
Supportive of all pathways to recovery (comfortable supporting students who engage in harm reduction efforts and not just sobriety/abstinence)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Flexible and team-oriented

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Commitment to health equity and social justice
Excellent project management and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of and experience with social media, particularly Instagram (strongly preferred)
Experience with design software, including Canva (preferred)
Experience with event planning and coordinating event logistics (preferred)
Ability to work in a remote and in-person environment

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Open recovery meeting space and co-facilitate recovery meeting (training provided; meetings will include All-Recovery, Friends and Family, or Rainbow Recovery, depending on the candidate's background)
Plan recovery wellness and social events
Attend Badger Recovery social events
Assist with outreach efforts and social media, specifically Instagram
Compile weekly newsletter
Refer student participants to resources on-campus (training provided)
Represent Badger Recovery at UW-Madison resource fairs
Support UHS Prevention staff as needed

Physical Demands:

Ability to use a computer
Attend recovery meetings in-person on-campus
