Department Overview:

The Undergraduate Program in the Wisconsin School of Business is home to a thriving learning
community where students gain lifelong friends, develop skills for their dream careers, and position themselves to excel in an ever-evolving business world. The Undergraduate Program serves upwards of 5,000 students across 12 different business majors, our pre-business population, and certificate programs.

Schedule:

The Global Programs Office is open from 9:00am-4:00pm. Peer Advisors can expect to be scheduled 7-10 hours per week.

Qualifications:

General Position Qualifications
• Interest in global learning, cultural exchange, and international education
• A desire to help and empower peers and build positive relationships
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations
• Strong customer service skills and a high level of professionalism
• Effective writing and verbal communication skills
• Attentive to detail, well organized
• Punctuality, reliable attendance, and flexibility
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive team environment
• Highly motivated and a strong initiative to learn about BBA services and resources
• Ability to use Microsoft office applications such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Advising Qualifications
• Ability to understand student needs and interests and provide guidance on options
• Interest in learning about and promoting a large program portfolio
• Honesty, patience, and empathy

Marketing Qualifications
• Knowledge of marketing strategy and planning
• Ability to create marketing materials using tools such as Adobe suite and PowerPoint
• Interest in reviewing and analyzing data to improve marketing efforts
• Proficient in Excel analytics

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Eligibility: Open to admitted BBA and CIB students only

Preference will be given to students who have already studied abroad through Global Programs, have a global perspective, and can work for more than one semester or academic year

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Peer Advising
• Develop expertise on study abroad programs, policies, and processes
• Advise UW-Madison students as they select and apply for a study abroad program, make pre-departure arrangements, live and study abroad, and return to UW-Madison

Outreach and Recruitment
• Develop and implement strategies and materials to promote study abroad within the Wisconsin School of Business and UW-Madison. Opportunities include creating posters for events, publicizing information sessions, helping with classroom presentations, posting on social media, writing articles and developing newsletters
• Develop and maintain tools for maintaining contact with prospective study abroad students

Special Events
• Plan and implement events
• Coordinate pre-departure orientation activities for study abroad participants

Administrative Support
• Serve as receptionist in a high-traffic peer advising office
• Assist with correspondence (telephone and email), filing and mailing
• Work with professional staff to maintain databases and create tables and reports
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

Must work onsite, in the Global Programs office.
