Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program Proficiency in Excel for data manipulation and analysis, including experience with formulas, tables, and creating data visualizations. Experience or coursework in quantitative analysis (e.g., statistical analysis, regression models, interpreting trends in large data sets) and/or qualitative analysis (e.g., coding documents, content analysis). Experience or interest in spatial analysis (using GIS or similar tools) is a plus but not required. Experience working with community based organizations Strong ability to synthesize and summarize academic literature and key findings related to social movements, policing, and public budgeting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present complex data and ideas in clear and accessible formats. Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a research team. Commitment to working 8-10 hours per week for the duration of the project. Ability to do outreach and communicate with partners and research participants. Some project coordination or project management experience. Spanish language: Working proficiency required. Bilingual level desirable but not required. Interest in immigrant communities, nonprofit sector, coalition building, worker rights and inequality is preferred, along with a keen interest in community-engaged studies. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Familiarity with the nonprofits, worker justice, immigrant serving organizations, and Wisconsin’s immigrant communities is highly desirable. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus. Timely completion tasks, consistent coding, data management, and inclusion of populations historically marginalized in social science research. Use of transcription software, proof-editing, and copy-editing. Ability to approach complex issues critically, with a strong interest in understanding the intersection of immigrant communities, networks, coalitions, and nonprofit organizations
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Project Coordination: help coordinate project including case study visits, note taking Data collection: Assist in survey distribution, surveying, and setting up interviews. Data preparation and Analysis: Cleaning and transcribing interviews and clearing and analyzing survey data to identify trends in public spending, particularly with regard to law enforcement, social services, and public investments tied to social movements. Outreach: Conduct outreach to community organizations, print materials, keep a log of activities of the research project, support research analysis and production of reports. Support Quantitative & Qualitative Analysis: support the team in both quantitative analysis (e.g., largely descriptive analysis and identifying patterns) and qualitative analysis (e.g., examining interviews and case study data). Literature Review: Conduct a thorough literature review on topics such as immigrant serving organizations and conditions impacting immigrant communities in Wisconsin Mapping & Spatial Analysis: Use mapping tools (e.g., GIS) or similar software to explore spatial trends in immigrant serving organizations, programming and services. Research Report & Writing: Contribute to drafting and revising research findings, helping to organize data, and analysis in a community resource guide and report Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with the research team to provide notes, updates, and follow up to the project. Participate in weekly or bi-weekly check-ins to discuss progress and receive feedback.
