Department Overview:

Founded by Drs. Michael Fiore and Timothy Baker, UW-CTRI is nationally recognized for its ground-breaking tobacco research and its commitment to translating those research findings into practice. UW-CTRI conducts tobacco research at its offices in both Madison and Milwaukee, as well as in healthcare clinics throughout Wisconsin and beyond. In addition to studying ways to improve our understanding of tobacco dependence and to disseminate effective treatments, UW-CTRI has also examined how to improve the effectiveness of community, state and national policy responses to tobacco addiction. The overall goal of UW-CTRI’s collective work is to reduce the physical, emotional, and financial consequences of smoking and to eliminate all tobacco product use.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Applicants should be comfortable on the telephone. Essential qualities include excellent customer service and phone etiquette skills: courteous, patient, good listener, helpful, and able to convey a positive tone over the phone. Attention to detail, accuracy and good record keeping skills essential.

Candidates must also have the ability to work with limited supervision in a defined organizational structure; experience and comfort with the use of technology in a work setting; and proficiency with typing.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

This position will work with UW-CTRI staff at the University Hospital in support of a study testing how vaping affects cardiopulmonary health. Job duties include: greeting study participants and escorting them to study locations in the hospital. Conduct phone-based interviews with study participants. Accurately complete computer-assisted telephone surveys, record call outcomes and notes, sort the call database to aid in process of whom to call, and check study phone line messages. Assist with various aspects of study organization as needed including processing follow-up mailings and payments to study participants, filing, etc. Assist researchers with other operational tasks in support of studies; answer telephones and perform other administrative tasks to support the whole Center.
