Department Overview:

The Accounting Department at The Rigby plays a key role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the company. Our team is responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and maintaining accurate financial records. As an intern in our department, you will be exposed to a variety of accounting functions, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, and system development.
You will work closely with our experienced accountants to assist with day-to-day operations, contribute to the development and improvement of accounting systems, and help maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records. This internship will provide you with valuable hands-on experience in the accounting field, with a focus on both traditional bookkeeping practices and innovative system solutions.

Qualifications:

School of business accounting or finance major

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of Accounting Principles: Understanding of basic and advanced accounting principles, including GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Bookkeeping Skills: Experience or understanding of managing financial records, including tracking transactions, reconciling accounts, and maintaining ledgers.
System Development: Ability to assist in the development and improvement of accounting systems, such as invoicing, expense tracking, and financial reporting systems.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or similar) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and formulas).
Data Management: Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record, manage, and analyze financial data.
Process Improvement: Willingness and ability to suggest and implement process improvements to streamline accounting functions and enhance reporting accuracy.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot discrepancies in financial data and collaborate with the team to resolve issues.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain accounting procedures, systems, and financial data to non-financial staff.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Confidentiality: Understanding of the importance of confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Bookkeeping Support: Assist with maintaining accurate financial records, including posting transactions, reconciling accounts, and updating ledgers.
System Development: Support the development and improvement of accounting systems, such as invoicing, expense tracking, and financial reporting tools.
Financial Reporting: Help prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Data Entry & Management: Input and organize financial data into accounting software, ensuring that records are complete and up-to-date.
Transaction Reconciliation: Review and reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Process Improvement: Assist in identifying areas for process improvements within the accounting department and contribute to the development of more efficient workflows.
Audit Assistance: Provide support during internal audits by organizing financial documentation and assisting with the preparation of audit materials.
Tax Filing Support: Assist with tax documentation preparation, including supporting data entry and organization for tax returns.
General Accounting Tasks: Assist with day-to-day accounting functions, such as invoicing, payroll, and managing accounts payable and receivable.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and to support cross-departmental projects related to financial data.
