Department Overview:
The UW-Madison Chemical Safety Office, one of the offices within the Division of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), primary goal is to ensure that all work involving hazardous chemicals is performed safely and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards. EHS is committed to the highest standards of customer relations principles for its customers, fellow staff members, students, and visitors by providing guidance and expertise to the campus community in the areas of biological, chemical, environmental, engineering, radiation, and fire safety. The Division of Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.

Schedule:
~10-20 hours per week during the semester, with an option for additional hours during summer. We'll negotiate flexible working hours with you. Working hours are between 8:30-4:30, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications:
Student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Basic knowledge of Excel - Excellent customer service - Experience working in a lab is preferred but not required - Completion of Chemistry 103/104 or equivalent is preferred but not required
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The ChemManager+ project is a multiyear initiative to improve safety and compliance at UW-Madison. As a member of the inventory team for the ChemManager+ project, you will play an essential role in recording the existing chemical stocks that are stored in our research and teaching labs. Incumbents in this role will gain experience in chemical and environmental regulatory compliance, inventory system management, UW system processes, and data management. Successful members of the ChemManager+ team: -- Understand that accuracy and integrity are extremely important -- Follow procedures on correct handling and labeling of containers, enter data, raise issues, and follow all laboratory safety requirements -- Safely perform repetitive tasks over an extended period time
