SuccessWorks is the center for personal and professional development, just for College of Letters & Science students. We connect students with the advisors, alumni, and employers who can help them explore their interests, try out different occupations, and then land the job or internship of their dreams. Our TAs teach career skills with SuccessWorks’ support.

Qualifications:
Mandatory: -Graduate student, in good standing at UW–Madison (minimum 3.0 GPA) -Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts and sciences field -Wireless access to email, Canvas, and Zoom (personal laptop/tablet required) Preferred: -Enrolled in a graduate program outside the College of Letters and Science -Professional work experience outside academia -Experience facilitating college-level discussions and classroom activities -Experience in teaching student writing, speaking, and online communication skills

-Ability to articulate the benefit of a liberal arts and sciences education for career success -Appreciation of the diverse backgrounds, needs, and goals of UW-Madison undergraduates across a wide variety of programs and majors -Understanding of issues involving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace -Familiarity with student advising and/or career development
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Inter-LS 210, "Taking Career Initiative" (1 credit) -Each TA manages 3 discussion sections of 22 students each (66 students total) -Discussion times: MTWR 9:55 + 11:00 + 12:05, 50-minutes each Inter-LS 215, "Communicating About Careers" (3 credits; Comm-B) -Each TA manages 2 discussion sections of 18 students each (36 students total) -Discussion times: Thursdays 9:00–10:45am, 11:00am–12:15pm, 2:30–3:45pm, 4:00–5:15pm ---Applicants must be available for two of these times ---Applicants must also be available for lecture Tuesdays 2:30pm-3:45pm Duties shared by all positions -Lead weekly discussion sections or review weekly online postings -Hold regular office hours (by Zoom if desired) and respond to student communications within 48 hours -Grade assignments in Canvas within 1 week of completion -Attend weekly 1-hour team meetings -Manage advisor, alumni, and employer visits as necessary -Contribute to ongoing course development and program assessment Parameters shared by all positions -TAs are supervised by the SuccessWorks Career Education Instructor -All course materials, guests, and assignments provided by Career Education Instructor -TAs work with various guest presenters: career advisers, alumni, and/or employers -New TAs must attend several training workshops during the week before classes start -50% position, generally qualifying for health benefits and tuition remission (tuition remission not available for graduate students enrolled in programs with service-based pricing tuition – see https://policy.wisc.edu/library/UW-1029) -Appointments may be renewed each semester, based on performance
