Department Overview:

The Cereals Breeding and Quantitative Genetics group is an exciting group led by professor Lucia Gutierrez, who is studying the genetics of complex traits with state of the art genomic and phenotyping tools in oats, wheat and barley.

From Monday to Friday, anytime between 7:30 AM to 5 PM is preferred.

Previous experience is not essential.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Responsibility, commitment, good communication skills, and teamwork are required. Patience, concentration, and enthusiasm to affront repetitive tasks will be valued.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The work will include:
- Field management: support field activities such as planting, harvesting, and weeding
- Field evaluation of crops: support evaluation of plant height, disease scores and heading dates
- Harvest preparation support: bag and envelope preparation for planting
- Harvest individual panicles/spikes, support combine harvest of large plots
- Threshing panicles/spikes
- Inventory and storage of seeds
- Field day support: support for field preparation

Physical Demands:

Fieldwork during the summer. The candidate will work outside for part of their workday.
Ability to carry seed boxes of about 20 pounds. This is not disqualifying but discuss during the interview.
Dust and pollen exposure.
