Department Overview:
The Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) serves over 1,300 students as they move from eighth grade to college graduation, offering innovative programming to support career exploration and self-management skills while building knowledge through experiential learning. Our programming is offered in three distinct units: Madison Precollege, Milwaukee Precollege, and The College Success Center. During the academic year, our precollege team advises Wisconsin students in Madison and Milwaukee public high schools, creating new pathways to higher education for low-income, potential first-generation families. During the summer, our precollege team hosts our students in a robust residential program on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, offering students an opportunity to experience college life and build community in their cohorts, fully supported by our dedicated staff. Our precollege students who gain admission into UW-Madison become college scholars. Our college team offers one-on-one high-touch advising services, unique programming created specifically for our student population, and other high-impact practices to foster student success. Qualifications:
Minimum Position Requirements: 1. UW Graduate Student Status (enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours) for the duration of the appointment, starting Fall 2025 semester. 2. Candidate must be able to work in person during the 2025-2026 academic year. 3. Candidate must be able to work in-person and off campus at one of the following Madison High Schools: East HS, Memorial HS and La Follette HS. 4. The candidate must be available during the following times. Monday to Thursday from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at a high school in the Madison Metropolitan School District during the academic school year 5. Candidate may occasionally work some weekend hours for special events and campus visits 6. Must satisfy a criminal background check, and successfully complete I-9 verification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Familiar with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft One Note.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Primary responsibilities include: - Under the daily supervision of the Precollege Advisor, with guidance from Education Content Specialists, Academic Leads deliver curriculum designed by PEOPLE Education Content Specialists - Meeting with students as needed to discuss their academic needs and to establish academic goals. - Work with the Data Steward to prepare the ACT college entrance exam practice curriculum. - Supervise tutorial staff members and provide direct tutorial services as needed. - Engage students in critical thinking dialogues and solicit their ideas, feedback and input. - Meet with tutorial staff members and/or Education Content Specialists on a weekly basis to review the educational plans of individual students and prepare for academic lessons. - Keep the Pre-College Advisor and Education Content Specialist informed of any successes and/or challenges - Identify the specific equipment, materials, and supplies that will be needed to render effective tutorial services - Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
Some light lifting may be required while providing daily snack to students.
