Schedule:
This is a 6–8 week internship with a commitment of 20–30 hours per week. Hours are typically scheduled between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The total duration will vary based on hours worked per week (e.g., 6 weeks at 30 hours/week or 8 weeks at 20 hours/week). Some flexibility is expected for occasional evening or weekend events. A portion of the work may be completed remotely.

Qualifications:
A person with strong connections with Tribal communities and/or organizations in the Great Lakes region. Employment will require a criminal background check. Student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting. Must be responsible for transportation to community sites

Position Summary/Job Duties:
The UW Madison Division of Extension Health & Well-Being Institute invites applications from those with expertise, cultural knowledge, and passion for working with Native American communities. The interns in these roles will have the opportunity to engage in programming that supports health and wellness within local Native American communities. This work will be done in collaboration with area UW Madison Extension staff members (Ashland/Bayfield/Iron County FoodWIse program, Federally Recognized Tribal Extension Program (FRTEP), and Healthy Communities Coordinator) and local tribal partners to support local summer programming efforts. Interns may be able to choose specific projects or areas of focus from the listed job duties to align with their interests and career goals while contributing to program objectives. -Support the Baaga’adowewin Health program and leadership network by helping facilitate youth games, planning tournaments, assisting with stick making events. -Work with the Bad River and Red Cliff Food Sovereignty Programs and Local Food Purchasing Assistance Program to build family and community gardens, help with food production in the high tunnel greenhouses, helping establish the new tribal farm by planting trees and gardening, helping to pack and distribute local food through the community produce boxes. -Assist with furthering print resources to support health and wellness through the development of the Harvest of the Moon, Chefs in Training, Take-a-Hike, Garden Club programs.
