Department Overview:

The Office of Communications and Advancement (C&A) within the UW–Madison School of Education is an integrated and collaborative unit that helps increase awareness and visibility of faculty and staff, departments, academic programs, and service units through a range of communications and marketing efforts. The office also serves and engages alumni and friends, builds and nurtures internal and external relationships, and develops and enhances lifelong philanthropic relationships.

Qualifications:

Current student, not graduating until at least May 2026.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required
-Currently pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field
-Writing and editing experience
-Attention to detail
-Experience and knowledge of social media
-Demonstrated skills in collaboration, interpersonal communication
-Ability to work independently under direction
-Creative, collaborative, organized and eager to learn

Preferred
-Ability to follow a brand guide and match brand voice
-Ability to write succinct, engaging copy tailored to social platforms or web
-Experience with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Stories, Reels, and TikTok
-Must be attentive to catch spelling and grammar errors
-Familiarity with AP Style
-General computer skills and experience with social media management tools. Software may include: Sprout Social, Canva, Asana project management, Google Suite, Eloqua, and WordPress.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Join our team! The Office of Communications and Advancement in the School of Education is looking for a Social Media and Marketing Intern. This is an hourly student employment opportunity that will provide hands-on experience to develop social media, marketing, and copywriting skills.

This position will primarily focus on creating and executing content that aligns with the C&A social media strategy, engaging with target audiences, and monitoring metrics to seek opportunities for growth and improvement. Other marketing support tasks and/or communications and advancement tasks will be assigned as needed and based on interest in developing specific skill sets.

Duties include:
-Collaborate with Marketing Specialists to create and share timely social and web content to support School events, news, projects, and campaigns.
-Contribute to the content calendar and pitch ideas for engaging and on-brand social media and marketing content
-Create timely Instagram videos (Reels) to engage the student audience.
-Monitor social media accounts and share ideas to engage with key audiences
-Amplify relevant content from School departments and units
-Assist in gathering analytics reports to track performance and inform strategy
- Other marketing tasks as assigned such as drafting marketing emails, crafting ad copy, writing marketing content, and creating recruitment materials
