Department Overview:

Botany provides an introduction to the living world: the diversity of its organisms, its historical origins through evolution, its principles of structure, function, and ecology, and its interactions with the nonliving world. Through photosynthesis plants fuel all other life on earth. They are the primary producers of the living world, also driving global water and carbon cycles. The Muir research group focuses on the quantitative, evolutionary, and physiology of plants and integrates experiments, comparative methods, and advanced quantitative tools to study physiological adaptation.

Schedule:

There is a summer position and no set schedule, with adjustments occurring based on availability and need. There is a minimum requirement of at least 20 hours per week. All work will be conducted on-site, in the laboratory.

Interest in botany or related field
Interest in research

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Able to work in the lab alone and with others
Attention to detail and patience, ability to accurately prepare specimens and use microscopy
Ability to perform repetitive tasks
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Punctuality

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The student researchers’ primary responsibilities involve processing and preparing leaf specimens and using the microscope and camera to obtain images of leaf surface cells. All work will be conducted on-site in the laboratory,
