Department Overview:

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Academic Advising Office, the Undergraduate Academic Office Econ Student Worker is an integral asset to general office administration and daily workflow. This student worker will play a large role in executing administrative tasks in programming support, major declaration, email communications, office environment & presentation, and more. This role is deeply valued in the Undergraduate Office in which they are considered part of the UGRD team, serving & supporting Econ declared & exploring students via their behind-the-scenes work. This office is searching for second-year and above applicants looking for personal and professional growth opportunities in a safe, positive learning environment.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Minimum: 6 Maximum: 10

Schedule:

10 hrs/week during the academic year in Fall and Spring
Must be able to work Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays 5:30-7:30PM weekly
Any candidate who cannot work these times will not be considered.
Ideal candidate schedules will also have availability on Wednesday afternoons.

Qualifications:

-Must be current UW-Madison undergraduate student, Dept of Economics students preferred
-Must have a professional demeanor and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Communication skills include: written, oral, public speaking, and comfort with online communication platforms (Microsoft Teams)
-Organization, timeliness, and attention to detail
-Must be able to maintain confidentiality
-Must be a self-starter, eager to learn, with enthusiasm for helping other econ students
-Must be collaborative, receptive to feedback, and adaptable in this fast-paced environment
-Willingness to share a student perspective. This office and this role within it is dynamic & ever-evolving. This worker will have an influence on how programming is executed, language used in mass emails, and general student response consultation.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

-Maintenance on the UGRD Academic Advising email account of econadvise@ssc.wisc.edu and econstudyspaces@ssc.wisc.edu. Will include regular upkeep of major declaration requests, study space inquires, and similar template-based email requests
-Collaboration with Academic Advising Supervisor on Study Space daily operations included but not limited to: recruitment, organizing hiring, marketing & mass communications to professors & affected staff, student tutor programming, and orientation facilitation, serves as go-to contact for tutor support for logistical and Study Space management. Must be staff-on-duty for all Study Space Hours in Fall & Spring (unless illness, personal emergencies, or exam conflict)
-Collaborate with Econ Academic Advisors on the major declaration process. Duties include: initial receipt of request, confirmation via DARS of qualifications, spreadsheet maintenance, email communications, and Canvas maintenance.
-Gathering roster and class & enrollment trend data from UW data systems
-Assist and provide student insight on Econ event planning and programming (examples include: Scholarship Celebration and Graduation Celebrations)
-General UGRD Office upkeep: signage, creative work, and related
-As needed, serves as Front Desk staff member creating a welcoming environment with instructions on Econ Academic office, Econ Dept, and UW practices and policies to assist students, staff, faculty, and guests
-Other duties as assigned.
