Department Overview:

The Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is a nationally recognized leader in psychological research, teaching, and outreach. Qualifications:

- Resume and writing sample are required to complete the application process.
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are both important for this role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with interviewing for storytelling
- Ability to translate academic research into plain language (preferred)
- Creativity, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills
- Psychology majors preferred, but all undergraduate students that meet other qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Psychology Department at UW–Madison has an opening for a communications intern. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Writing about research in the department
- Developing human interest stories
- Graphic design
- Social media posting
- Digital signage
- Photography
We understand that many students have not yet developed all of these skills. We are more than willing to teach the person we hire how to do what they do not already know. In addition, the student worker will gain experience and numerous writing/design pieces to add to their portfolio. Those seeking a degree in journalism/communications, psychology, or any field of science will likely find this a valuable experience. Candidate must be a current UW student. Video experience a plus.
