Department Overview:

The Marketing Leadership Institute (MLI) connects Wisconsin School of Business students with industry through events, employer partnerships, and applied learning. We host guest speakers, career treks, workshops, and networking receptions while producing content that highlights student success and alumni engagement.

Schedule:

General office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with occasional pre-planned evening/weekend support for events. Preference for candidates with longer availability blocks (e.g., 10 a.m.–2 p.m.).

Schedule will be set at hire to accommodate the student’s availability and ensure front-office coverage, coordinated across the student staff. The intern will work on-site in the MLI suite alongside the Assistant Director and fellow student team members.

Qualifications:

Required:
• Currently enrolled UW–Madison undergraduate.
• Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Finance/Accounting, or related field.
• Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook business features (reels/stories).
• Strong verbal, written, and administrative skills; attention to detail and deadlines.
• Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working with limited daily supervision.
• Comfortable capturing photo/video on a smartphone.

Preferred:
• Pursuing a degree in Marketing
• Coursework or experience in social media, branding, or digital marketing.
• Basic design skills (e.g., Canva; Adobe experience a plus).
• Sophomore or junior standing; expected graduation May 2028 or later.
• Prior experience in marketing, hospitality, events, or student org promotion.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Time management; ability to juggle multiple deadlines.
• Work independently and in a small, collaborative team.
• Adapt quickly to new tools/platform updates.
• Represent MLI’s tone, energy, and professionalism online and at events.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Administrative Operations & Event Logistics:
• Greet visitors, monitor shared inboxes, route inquiries, take messages
• Create/edit/proof documents, prepare packets, print/copy/scan, maintain templates
• Update spreadsheets/CRMs, track attendance or RSVPs, keep contact databases current
• Sort/distribute mail, manage office supply inventory, place orders, prep shipping/receiving
• Order and email parking passes
• Assist with sign-in tables, name tags, agendas, setup/teardown, basic A/V checks, light catering coordination
• Do basic information gathering for travel and vendor comparisons; summarize findings, make recommendations
• Tidy and restock Center spaces
• Perform miscellaneous MLI administrative task to support MLI Center team

Marketing & Communications:
• Create marketing materials for MLI events
• Assist with MLI blog and email updates
• Maintain a content calendar
• Manage social media channels; design and schedule posts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
• Collaborate with MBA students on content creation
• Capture photos/video

Finance Support:
• Collect receipts, compile expense info, prepare simple forms, maintain budget trackers (as allowed)
• Submit e-reimbursements and proxy p-card payments
• Gather required documentation (e.g., attendee lists)
• Prepare check deposit forms

Additional duties as assigned.

Student interns may be assigned one primary task area based on interest and needs of the office.

Physical Demands:

Primarily office and on-site event work.
