Department Overview:
UW-Madison Division of Extension Human Development and Relationships Institute promotes the development of resilient individuals, families, and communities across Wisconsin at every stage of life through meaningful partnerships and research-based education. Our Institute has over 400 partnerships across Wisconsin. We work with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and business leaders to deliver our programming to residents. Our institute receives federal, state, and county funds. Our partnerships are critically important to Extension and the communities we serve. Some of our main assets are our community-based educators and campus-based specialists.

Schedule:
Monday through Friday, flexible schedule, to be worked out with Supervisor. Term: one spring position, hours will be approximately 10-15 per week with potential for extension through summer; up to 20 hours per week during the summer.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications: • Relevant education, coursework, or experience related to marketing, communication, and social and digital media strategy. • Proficiency with Canva • Understanding of Facebook or Meta programs • Education or experience with Adobe software and social media platforms • Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills • Ability to build and maintain professional work environments • Experience managing multiple tasks and timelines while maintaining high-quality work • Self-motivated and team-oriented • Understanding of or interest in learning about accessibility requirements for documents and other media * Employment will require a criminal background check. ** Must be a current student enrolled for credit at an academic institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Preferred Qualifications • Experience using social media on behalf of an organization or brand • InDesign experience • Education or experience in developing, delivering outreach programs for diverse audiences utilizing a variety of educational techniques, methods, and modes
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Position Goals • Improve internal and external communications (social media, newsletter, website, etc.) of the Human Development and Relationships Institute through effective design • Collaboratively develop and implement a social media strategy for Family Engagement and Relationships, Financial Education, and Life Span programs • Create and share stories of state and county programs with participants, collaborators, and external stakeholders • Support the overall program needs beyond communication Position Responsibilities • Collaborate with supervisor and key partners to design and develop social media, website, and newsletter content, press releases, and communications relating to HDRI programming. • Support alignment of communication across platforms: website, newsletter, social media, video content, etc. • Support development of design resources for local county educators to use in promoting HDRI programming. • Track social media and newsletter analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of the communications strategy. • Provide occasional general program support for upcoming HDRI projects. • Meet regularly with supervisor and key Extension communication team partners. • Assist with Planning Ahead, Literacy Link, Raising Wisconsin’s Children conference, and Fathers in Focus conference by making copies, mailing, editing letters, and working with other student staff on projects.
Physical Demands:
May occasionally need to lift up to 50 lbs. The position requires sitting or standing in front of a computer workstation, typing, and viewing a computer screen.
