Graduate Student in good academic standing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Familiarity with Canvas.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

LSC 340 is a 3-credit course that counts toward the social science general education requirement for undergraduates and is an additional core elective for the Life Sciences Communication major. It also counts towards the Undergraduate Certificate in Science Communication. The course will explore the spread and effects of misinformation related to scientific topics. We will cover why people believe fake news, the role of social media, and discussion of societal impacts. Students will read news and academic articles, find and analyze examples of misinformation, and evaluate strategies for correcting false beliefs.

Duties:
• Assist LSC faculty member with grading assignments and exams
• Assist LSC faculty member in advising students on class work
• Meet weekly with faculty member outside of class
• Hold office hours

Required Training:
LSC Departmental TA training, CALS New Educator Orientation, and Graduate Assistants Equity Workshops (for new TAs) the week of January 13th. TAs who are international students may also be required to enroll in ESL 370: International Teaching Assistant Training.

This position does not offer tuition remission.
