Department Overview:

The Office of Clinical Research provides full-service study coordination and regulatory services to the UW Department of Surgery. Studies conducted by the office include industry, federal, and investigator-initiated clinical trials investigating pharmaceuticals, devices, and comparison of treatment options.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Summary:
The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) in the Department of Surgery is looking to hire a student research assistant to contribute to the successful operations of the team. We are looking for someone who can work both during the school year and over the summer. The ideal candidate will be able to dedicate 10-20 hours to the position per week, with the majority of work occurring between 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. This position may require occasional work outside of these hours in order to provide assistance with biospecimen processing in support of ongoing clinical trials; the necessity of night/weekend coverage may fluctuate according to the trials that are active. The days and hours per day are flexible and can vary according to the applicant's academic schedule. This position will work with protected health information and will be expected to complete HIPAA, Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Protection trainings.

Applicants may have the opportunity to gain shadowing experience in the operating room and other clinic settings, as well as other opportunities for involvement based on the student's interests and availability.

Duties:
- Administrative support for the clinical research coordinator & regulatory teams within OCR
- Perform general office tasks such as filing, copying, faxing, and organization
- Process and ship biospecimen samples
- Create research participant binders for various studies
- Assist in the storage, organization, and archiving of study records
- Medical record review and data entry
- Assist with communications to study participants

Physical Demands:

- Must be able to sit and stand intermittently during work hours
- Ability to use a computer, phone system, and office equipment
- Ability to lift and transport items weighing ~10 pounds (e.g. boxes of paper)
