Department Overview:

The Hawk Center for Applied Securities Analysis at the Wisconsin School of Business connects students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners through experiential learning, professional development, and community-building initiatives. Our team supports academic programs, alumni engagement, events, and applied learning experiences that prepare students for careers in finance and beyond. Student employees are valued members of our office and play a meaningful role in bringing programs and events to life. Schedule:

10-12 hours per week during the school year, and an estimated 5-10 hours per week over the summer. Work over the summer can be completed remotely, but will need to be back on campus starting in August to complete some work on-site.

Qualifications:

Current undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to tone, clarity, and detail.

Interest or experience in communications, marketing, event planning, project management, or a related area.

Comfort using digital tools such as email platforms, social media (especially LinkedIn), and websites; willingness to learn new systems as needed.

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.

Professional, reliable, and comfortable communicating with alumni, faculty, staff, and campus partners.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.

Availability to support events, including occasional evening or weekend commitments (especially during the Reunion Conference).

Attention to detail and problem-solving mindset, particularly in fast-paced or event-day environments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of or interest in communications, marketing, event planning, or project coordination.

Strong written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, engaging, and professional content for diverse audiences.

Ability to manage and update digital platforms, including email communications, social media, and websites.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Communications & Events Student Assistant plays a key role in advancing the Hawk Center’s visibility, engagement, and event execution. This position supports all communications, marketing, and event-related efforts while assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Center. The student in this role will work closely with professional staff, alumni, and campus partners to ensure consistent messaging, smooth event logistics, and timely project completion—most notably for the Hawk Center Reunion Conference, which will host up to 400 attendees.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
> Manage and assist with student and alumni communications, including newsletters, targeted email campaigns, and event messaging.

> Support content creation and upkeep for the Hawk Center website, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms to ensure accurate, engaging, and on-brand communication.

> Assist with marketing and promotional efforts for all Hawk Center programs and events, including digital materials and outreach strategies.

> Support event planning and execution for Hawk Center events, including logistics, timelines, vendor coordination, registration tracking, and on-site support.

> Play an active role in planning and managing logistics for the Hawk Center Reunion Conference, including communication with alumni, scheduling, and day-of event coordination.

> Track project timelines, deadlines, and deliverables to support effective project management across multiple initiatives.

> Provide general operational and administrative support to the Hawk Center, including day-to-day logistics and coordination as needed.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to perform typical office-related tasks, including prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. The role may also involve light physical activity such as setting up event materials, moving supplies, and standing or walking for extended periods during events.
