Department Overview:

 Summer Collegiate Experience (SCE) is a high-impact, quality-learning, first-year experience for students entering the university. Admitted students register for courses, receive graded degree credits and learn about UW-Madison resources and campus culture during a six-week residential summer program. The student participants will have the opportunity to meet a diverse group of first-year students and faculty/staff, while getting adjusted to the university's academic and social environment. All student participants, UHFs, and the GPC live in a UW-Madison residence hall during the program.

Schedule:

 The SCE GPC position is an on-site, live-in position and requires full commitment to the program. The GPC works 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends. The GPC will live in a UW-Madison residence hall with all the program participants and have meals at Four Lakes Market. No other large commitments can be scheduled during the employment period (such as class, research, vacation, other employment).

Qualifications:

 · Current graduate student in good academic standing
· Ability to work full-time and live in the residence hall throughout the duration of the program
· Residence Life, Teaching, and/or Student Affairs experience preferred, but not required
· Experience working with students from all backgrounds is strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Ability to consistently act professionally and as a good role model for all students
· Effective communication and listening skills to interact with peers and professional staff
· Ability to work with students from all backgrounds
· Knowledge of campus resources
· Ability to resolve conflicts and respond to emergency situations with professionalism
· Good organization skills

Position Summary/Job Duties:

· Listening to any concerns participants may have and communicating with the SCE Director and/or Assistant Director to address those concerns.
· Creating inclusive, meaningful, and accessible events to help participants engage with the program, each other, and UW campus.
· Conducting evening rounds to ensure the safety of the living environment for all participants.
· Participating in SCE programming events.
· Guiding and assisting participants in the event of emergency.
· Assist in developing program policies, undergraduate house fellow training, staff scheduling and management.
· Coordinate house fellow events.

Physical Demands:

Ability to comfortably navigate campus. Limited physical demand.
