Department Overview:

The Multicultural Student Center (MSC), located in the Red Gym, provides support, advocacy, and co-curricular experiences that center, affirm, and celebrate the varied and intersectional experiences of all UW students. Our spaces, programs and services are designed to cultivate a sense of belonging and community while strengthening all students’ capacity to learn, lead and thrive.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Minimum: 8-10

Schedule:

Bi-weekly all-intern meeting (1.5 hours)
Bi-weekly 1:1 with supervisor (1 hour)
Bi-weekly communications team meeting (1 hour)
Independent work time (6.5 hours)
This intern will work 8-10 hours a week, which includes time scheduled in the MSC.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: 16.00

Qualifications:

2.0 Cumulative G.P.A. Required for Hire
Undergraduate
Written/verbal communications skills;
Experience with social media & technology (Instagram, Facebook, etc), creating meaningful and engaging social media presence for event promotion and community building
Familiarity with creating newsletter content and using marketing automation platforms
Familiarity with video editing software and technology
Experience with desktop publishing skills (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
Portfolio with examples of designs and previous promotional materials
Excellent customer service skills
Be able to work independently with strict deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:
Student with proven track record of social media usage and strategy, graphic design, website, and newsletter work

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proven track record of social media usage, strategy, and analytics
Proven track record of graphic design, editing, and ideation
Proven track record of website and newsletter work
Excellent customer service skills
Be able to work independently with strict deadlines

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Create new and unique designs for events, promotions, etc.
Use creativity to create content for MSC events and programs via graphics, videos, and social media outreach
Manage website and newsletters
Manage photo coverage of signature events
Create new outreach strategies and plans for growing and expanding the MSC reach
Gather analytics and use them to create and suggest changes for communications strategy

Physical Demands:

Sit for long periods at computer/desk
Use digital screens
