Department Overview:

The Multicultural Student Center (MSC), located in the Red Gym, provides support, advocacy, and co-curricular experiences that center, affirm, and celebrate the varied and intersectional experiences of all UW students. Our spaces, programs and services are designed to cultivate a sense of belonging and community while strengthening all students’ capacity to learn, lead and thrive.

Minimum: 10 

Schedule:

Weekly SOS team meeting (1 hour)
Weekly 1:1 with supervisor (1 hour)
Biweekly all-intern meetings (1.5 hours)
Multicultural Org Assembly and Unpacking Concepts (3hr/week)
Flexible Hours Primarily with Administrative tasks (Ex. event planning, logistics, responding emails, social media management) (remaining hours)

Qualifications:

2.0 Cumulative G.P.A. Required for Hire
Undergraduate
Written/verbal/electronic communications skills
Previous student organization leadership experience
Highly organized and energized
Excellent customer service skills
Familiarity with social media
Familiarity with Outlook email service
Familiarity with Canva or similar software

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent written/verbal communications skills
Ability to lead and work in teams
Experience with social media and event management
Ability to work independently under strict deadlines

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Student Organization Support intern will work closely with the MSC Student Organization Support Coordinator to build relationships between the MSC and dual-affiliated student organizations across campus. This intern will focus on assisting the Student Organization Support Coordinator on the affiliation process of student organizations, communication with relevant organizations, and leadership development programming. This intern will assist in MSC events including but are not limited to; The Meet Up (fall student organization fair), Multicultural Leadership Summit, Comeback Carnival (spring student organization fair), MSC Student Achievement Gala, and other large-scale leadership events.

Manage and track details for student organization registration and affiliation with the MSC
Developing programming and workshops for student leaders
Collaborate with the Office of Inclusion Education team on Unpacking concepts workshop series
Create a newsletter bi-weekly and communication methods to update student organization leaders
Assist in the creation and assessment of MSC involvement initiatives
Create and manage communication timeline with student org leaders
Be available for weekly 1:1s with SOS Coordinator and team meetings

Physical Demands:

Sit for long periods at computer/desk
Use digital screens
Set up for events - move tables and chairs
