Department Overview:
The UW Swine Research & Teaching Center provides integral support for research, teaching and extension programs. The facility houses a 250-sow breeding herd, and allows for a total capacity of 1,500 pigs. The center includes four animal wings, an education wing and core support area with surgery and laboratory space.

Qualifications:
Student should be enrolled at UW-Madison in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Possess strong problem-solving skills Ability to be trained in proper animal husbandry and facility specific methods Knowledge and safe practice of general hand and power tools Knowledge of or desire to learn basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs Physical ability to lift heavy objects in a work setting
Position Summary/Job Duties:
General maintenance and repairs Use of hand, power, and specialty tools and equipment Routine and non-routine inspections Assist in animal husbandry, movement, care, and cleaning Work both independently and with other students, and facility staff Primary Location at Swine Research & Teaching Center (SRTC) in Arlington, approximately 20 miles north of Madison Position can be full or part-time, 20-40 hours per week, starting in late May through late August (flexible start and end date) $15.00 per hour; a minimum of 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling options.
