Department Overview:

Our lab's research is aimed at understanding the genetic and cell biology mechanisms that promote maintenance of neuron function in adulthood, and what causes them to fail in aging, using Caenorhabditis elegans.

Schedule:

Schedule is flexible. Student should be available either:
4 weekday afternoons sometime in the 12-3 pm window for a 1 hour window (preferred),
2 weekday afternoons sometime in the 12-3 pm window for a 2 hour window, or
3 weekday afternoons sometime in the 12-3 pm window for a mix of 1-2 hours.
The ideal candidate would also be available on the same days in the morning, sometime between 7-9 am, for 30 minutes.

Qualifications:

Applicant should have taken at least one wet lab course or had at least one wet lab experience (even in high school), and come in with a basic understanding of biology and/or chemistry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Able to completely follow a protocol/recipe. Reliable, careful, observant.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Worker will follow a protocol to prepare media, then use a plate pouring machine to pour the media into petri plates. If the worker is available in the mornings, they will start the media from scratch and put it in the autoclave.

Physical Demands:

Able to lift ~10 lbs for a short period of time, reach above eye level to lift and move bottles, open lightly sealed lids.
