Department Overview:

The Chazen Museum of Art collects, preserves, interprets, and exhibits works of art and presents related educational programs in support of the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The Chazen does this because the visual arts enrich individual human experience and because knowledge of art is essential to understanding diverse cultures, past and present.

Schedule:

Hours will vary. Events typically take place during the museum's open hours on weekday evenings, occasional Saturdays, and once a month on the first Sunday. The Chazen's open hours are 10am-7pm on weekdays, and 11am-5pm on weekends.

Qualifications:

Must be a University of Wisconsin-Madison student.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Willing to work evening and weekend shifts.
-Able to interact with members of the public; be a friendly, outgoing, and approachable representative of the museum while following museum procedure for security and safety of works of art.
-Pay attention to detail, be professional, and be dependable.
-Ability to work on a team and independently.
-Customer service experience preferred but not required.
-Catering or event experience preferred but not required.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Day-of event support: Help with event setup, attendance tracking, wayfinding, assisting with hands on activities, greeting patrons, providing directions, and event clean up.

Event preparation: Help brainstorm event topics or projects, work with the event coordinator to complete tasks in the event planning process, create project examples, organize and inventory art supplies, outreach to prospective attendees or collaborators, and hang event flyers in public spaces.

Physical Demands:

This work can include light lifting (up to 30 lbs.), bending, stretching, climbing, pushing, twisting, pulling, and reaching.
