Department Overview:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries support teaching, research, and learning by curating, preserving, and sharing knowledge to advance the mission and strategic priorities of our world-class research university. Libraries HR serves more than 200 full-time staff and 300 part-time and student employees across multiple locations and provides timely, professional, and collaborative support across the organization.

Schedule:

Flexible scheduling is available between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A consistent weekly schedule is preferred and will be established in coordination with the selected student.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Commitment to working scheduled hours.

Preferred:
- Customer service or other public-facing experience.
- Interest in the field of Human Resources, administration, or the work of academic and research libraries.
- Proficiency with Workday, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar administrative software tools.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Demonstrated ability to independently manage, prioritize, and complete multiple competing responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and the handling of sensitive information.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The HR Student Assistant supports day-to-day HR operations with a focus on student hiring, onboarding, and job changes. This position responds to questions from student employees and supervisors and provides guidance on student hiring. Additionally, the HR Student Assistant will contribute to HR process improvement and administrative projects.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Processing transactions in the UW Madison HR system, Workday, including student hires, voluntary separations, promotions, and transfers.
- Responding to routine inquiries from student employees and supervisors regarding student hiring.
- Supporting special projects and other HR or administrative duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods.
