Schedule:

Chemistry classes meet during the fall term from September 2 through December 17. Mandatory TA training occurs the week of August 24. All general chemistry and organic chemistry courses meet in-person. See Course Search & Enroll for specific meeting times. Exact section assignments are not finalized until about a week before the start of classes.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $4,348; paid in biweekly installments

Number of Positions:

1-5 positions. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering are eligible.
Applicants must have a strong chemistry background, with completion of general and organic chemistry. Additional advanced courses are a plus.
A minimum overall GPA of 3.00 is required. An overall GPA of 3.30 or higher is strongly preferred.
A Chemistry GPA of 3.30 or better is strongly preferred.
Fourth year students are preferred. Third year students with an especially strong chemistry background will be considered.
Students for whom English is a second language may be required to take the SPEAK test.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The successful candidate will have subject matter expertise, motivation to educate students, excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work with students of diverse backgrounds, be a team player, and be dependable, professional, and willing to learn.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The appointment level for UA-TA positions in Organic Chemistry is 45%, or roughly 18 hours per week. Appointments in General Chemistry can be either 45% (~18 hours per week) or 33.3% (~14 hours per week).

UA-TAs are responsible for teaching one or two discussion and/or lab sections (depending on appointment level and course assignment) and attending whole class meetings. Other UA-TA responsibilities for all courses include attending staff meetings, preparation for teaching, holding office hours, proctoring exams, and grading.

Required training begins Monday, August 24 and continues through Friday, August 28, 2026. If you cannot attend in-person training, you should not apply.
