Department Overview:

The Office of Experiential Learning (OEL), housed within the Division for Teaching & Learning (DTL), supports over 2,600 scholars from programs such as Posse, PEOPLE, McNair, CeO, Mercile J. Lee, First Wave, FFWS, and NDGNS UW. OEL fosters student engagement in high-impact practices (HIPs) by creating pathways and facilitating access to undergraduate research, study abroad, and internship opportunities.
This position will oversee the Global Scholars Scholarship Program, collaborate with the International Division on the implementation of the Global Badges, and support students through small-group & 1-on-1 individual meetings as they apply for funding opportunities for study abroad programs.
We are seeking a graduate student who has passion for mentorship, interest in study abroad, strong organizational skills, and thrives in a team-focused environment that works to support a diverse cohort of undergraduate scholars. This one-year renewable position provides a lot of variety to someone who likes to learn new things and enjoys multi-tasking. The role is also best suited for an individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, strong written communication skills, enjoys working in a vibrant student-facing office, is open to learning about campus partners/study abroad opportunities, enjoys collaborating with staff and students, thrives working with detail-oriented tasks, and is excited to develop new skills in student advising/mentorship/support. |

Schedule:
|
10 hrs/week. This position requires most of the work to be performed in-person, onsite in the OEL office during normal operating hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Some events and 1-on-1 advising will take place during the evenings and occasional weekends, depending on the schedules of our scholars. |

Qualifications:
|
Required Qualifications: • Enrollment in a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, etc.) or other professional program (Law, Medicine, etc.) at UW-Madison that extends through Summer 2027. Dissertators highly encouraged to apply. • Must commit to staying in the position for the full duration and dedicating an average of 10 hrs/week. • Previous experience working with undergraduates, especially first-generation and Pell-eligible students. • Experience conducting research at a higher-education institution. • Candidates will be required to upload a cover letter referring to related work experience and a resume/CV detailing educational and professional background. Candidates will also be presented with the option to manually enter Certifications, Education, Languages, and Website information.
Preferred Qualifications: • Obtained an undergraduate degree from UW-Madison will be considered as a plus. Applicants that have participated in research, study abroad, and/or internships while an undergraduate will be prioritized. |

Position Summary/Job Duties: • Oversee the Global Scholars Scholarship, which includes: advertising the scholarship, organizing and leading meetings for the Global Scholars selection committee, working with DTL Finance to award scholarship recipients, facilitating pre-departure and post-boarding meetings for the awardees, providing guidance for the Global Scholars Project, organizing documents and workflows related to the scholarship • Provide 1-on-1 and small-group mentorship to scholars who are seeking funding for study abroad opportunities. • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate programming for high-impact practices, concentrating on areas within Study Abroad and Global Scholars • Assist with marketing, website design, newsletter creation, and communications that respond to work within our office • Collect, analyze, and report outcome-oriented data each semester to OEL and to DTL using established formatting, timelines, and processes • Collaborate with the International Division to develop resources and facilitate the awarding of Global Badges to SESP/HIPs scholars
